Why SHIFT exists

The most interesting things happen
when disciplines collide.

SHIFT started as an argument between a designer and a climate researcher about whose problem was harder. Neither of them won. What came out of it was a three-day conference built on the premise that the most useful conversations are the ones you are slightly unqualified to have.

So we put six tracks in one building, kept the hallways wide, and made the breaks long enough to matter. No talk runs past 45 minutes. Nobody reads their slides. Everyone is expected to leave with at least one idea that wasn’t theirs when they arrived.

Tejgaon Hall is a former jute warehouse in Dhaka’s old industrial quarter — 1950s brick, steel trusses, and enough room to put six stages under one roof. Fifteen minutes from Hatirjheel, a short ride from Banani and Gulshan, and surrounded by the part of Dhaka that still makes things.
